Hello!

I thought I'd post something to give a general idea of what knit projects I'm working on right now! I have main types of projects right now and two wips, one for each type!

Project One

I'm working on my first knitting pattern! Its for very simple knit arm warmers.

they're scrappy, so I separated my scraps into warm and cool tones to make a pair. I finished the cool toned glove, and I'm working on the warm toned one tonight.

The pattern is extremely basic and uses worsted/aran weight scraps! So if I decide to make it a more formal pattern with actual instructions and formatting, I'll likely post it to ravelry and do pattern testing on instagram.

I will update with news about this later! LMK if you'd like a pattern when its done (it'll be free for sure, but I can link directly if you'd like!).

Project Two

I've joined a year long KAL (knit-a-long) for sock knitting! (https://www.ravelry.com/groups/box-of-socks-2023)

its a skill that I would like to gain, so I figure this super involved practice will be helpful! and maybe I can troubleshoot with people in the group as well!

I've started one worsted/aran weight sock just for the sake of getting the techniques down before I move on to more fiddly/smaller yarn.

other info

My boyfriend, Nick, is playing D&D with his friends tonight, so I have plenty of time alone to just sit and get in the zone with knitting!

I'm starting to understand when middle aged women talk about loving their family but finally having time alone to knit! I always thought it was kind of bitter, but now that I'm an adult with more responsibilities, I kinda get it (obviously kids usually play a role in this relief at alone time, so that part I don't get yet but ya know).

I'm so grateful for the people in my life, but also I'm learning to value quiet alone time, instead of being sad or feeling very lonely. I think loving people a lot means that spending time with them means a lot, but time alone helps you feel even more grateful when you spend time with them! (distance makes the heart grow fonder and all that :)

Anyways, time to get into that knittin zone lol

thanks for tuning in!
- Rin K

comments

hello!

I recently took a trip with my parents to some used book stores! There's not many super close to me, but we took a day trip to a few towns over.

I got 4 from one store plus an additional/unrelated item for a total of $16.90!! what a deal! and their selection was amazing for a used book store! they're usually a hit for me with nonfiction so go figure :)

Then from another store, I found a few unrelated books and 2 knitting books. The books were just general guides/pattern books. Tbh I was less impressed there, and the section was very poorly sorted (seemed like it had not been sorted by an employee in some time. my mother had a major issue with this as someone who used to work for a major bookstore chain, but I wasn't super bugged by it)

here are the titles I've read from so far and find helpful/interesting/otherwise noteworthy (with stars next to the especially inspiring ones):
- The Joy of Knitting Companion: A Knitters Handbook by Lisa R. Myers
- Knitting for your Home: Afghans Pillows, and Accents by Nicky Epstein
- ☆ Alterknits by Leigh Radford ☆
- ☆ Yarn Bombing by Mandy Moore and Leanne Prain ☆

Thanks for tuning in!
- Rin K

comments

hello!

welcome, and thank you for joining me!

this blog is going to be mostly, if not entirely, for my crafting, art, and DIY journey!
for background info, I've known how to crochet and sew since I was a kid, and now (Feb 2023) as a 21 year old college student, I've recently learned how to knit and it has revived my passion for crafts.

I'm a studio arts major w a minor in computer science, so art plays a heavy role in my crafts and my computer knowledge plays a heavy role in making and running this blog.

I have a sort of over-analyzing mind, so keeping track of all the projects I try and how it goes will be very helpful for me, and hopefully you find some level of entertainment or helpful tips in this too!

I'm also starting this to meet likeminded crafters! so If that interests you, feel free to message me!

thanks so much for joining me on this for however long you choose to!

- Rin K

comments
